White paneled Nantucket bedroom with a rattan four-poster bed, ticking stripe pillows and a blue and white ginger jar lamp

The Nantucket Charm Edit

The Coastal Bedroom

White bedding, one rattan piece, and blue in exactly two places.

A summer-house bedroom is mostly white — and then it isn't.

The rooms that stay in your head are simple: a light bed frame, white bedding you can wash, a pair of lamps that match, and blue used sparingly enough that it still surprises you. Start with the bed, layer the linens, then let the nightstands and lamps do the rest.

The Layers

Bedding, Quilts & Shams

White first, blue in two places, and a quilt folded at the foot. This is where a bedroom stops looking like a hotel.

Both Sides of the Bed

Nightstands, Benches & Dressers

Painted nightstands, woven chests and an end-of-bed bench for the quilts you swap out in June.

At the Foot of the Bed

Wicker Benches, Ottomans & Storage

Woven storage benches, rattan trunks, tufted ottomans and poufs — the piece that holds the quilts, the extra pillows and the throws you swap out by season.

The Best Part

Decorative Pillows & Throws

Hand-hooked wool labs and herons, ticking stripes, embroidered shells and the cream throws that get folded at the foot — every pillow we carry, all in one place.

The Finishing Touches

Lamps, Mirrors & Small Things

Ginger jar lamps, a round mirror over the dresser, and a jug of hydrangeas on the nightstand.

Before You Order

How to Layer a Coastal Bedroom

  1. 1. White bedding, always. It launders, it brightens, and it lets the blue you add actually register.
  2. 2. Blue in two places. A striped sham and a folded quilt. Add a third and the room starts to look like a theme.
  3. 3. Match the lamps. A symmetrical pair on the nightstands is the fastest way to make a bedroom look designed.
  4. 4. Rug starts below the nightstands. 8x10 for a queen, 9x12 for a king, with 18 to 24 inches on each side.
  5. 5. One woven texture. Rattan bed, seagrass bench, or a woven chest — one is enough to warm the whole room.

Questions We Get

Bedroom Questions

What bedding makes a bedroom look coastal?
Start with white — a white duvet or matelassé coverlet — then add blue in exactly two places: a ticking stripe or scalloped sham, and a folded quilt at the foot. Coastal reads as light and layered, never matchy.
How many pillows should a bed have?
For a queen: two sleeping pillows, two euro shams behind them, two standard shams in front, and one lumbar. For a king, add a third euro. More than that and nobody actually makes the bed.
What size rug goes under a bed?
An 8x10 under a queen and a 9x12 under a king, set so the rug starts just below the nightstands and leaves 18 to 24 inches of soft landing on each side.
How tall should a bedside lamp be?
The bottom of the shade should sit at about eye level when you are sitting up in bed — roughly 26 to 30 inches overall for a standard nightstand. Ginger jar lamps hit that range almost perfectly.
Rattan bed or upholstered bed?
Rattan and cane for a light, breezy guest room with white walls. Upholstered linen or a slipcovered headboard for a primary bedroom you want to feel quieter and softer.
