A pair of blue and cream ticking stripe nailhead club chairs in a Nantucket living room

The Nantucket Charm Edit

Blue Striped Accent Chairs

Every ticking-stripe chair we've found and vetted — rolled arms, nailhead trim, bobbin frames and washable slipcovers — from about $170 to $950 a pair.

A blue-and-white striped chair is the fastest way to make a room look like it has always been on the island. It reads as pattern without reading as busy, it forgives a wet bathing suit, and it makes a plain ivory sofa look intentional.

This is the whole list in one place — sorted from least to most expensive, with the set-of-two prices marked so you can compare honestly.

Before You Order

How to Choose Yours

  1. 1. Buy the pair if you can. A single striped chair reads as an accident; two facing each other read as a decision. Check whether a listing price is for one chair or for a set of two before you compare.
  2. 2. Match the stripe width to the room. A narrow ticking stripe disappears into a busy room and behaves like a neutral. A wide cabana stripe wants plain walls and a solid rug to sit against.
  3. 3. Measure the doorway, not the room. Rolled-arm club chairs are usually 30–34" wide. If your stair turn is tight, a bobbin frame or an armless slipper chair goes up far more easily.
  4. 4. Slipcovers earn their keep by the water. If the chair sits anywhere near a back door, sand, or a dog, choose a washable slipcovered frame over a fixed upholstered one.
  5. 5. Let the stripe be the only pattern. Keep the rug natural — jute or sisal — and put the rest of the color in a ginger jar lamp and a jug of hydrangeas.

If You'd Rather Not Stripe

The Same Shape, Quieter

Damask, block print, rattan and plain linen — the chairs that sit beside a striped sofa instead of competing with it.
